Should have known!
Pontos Fortes: This disc has SP3 and therefore should eliminate the need for slipstreaming to repair a XP installation from an SP2 version. That was my intention.
Pontos Fracos: Weakness the "repair" failed to authenticate.
Resumo: XP has proven to be MS's most reliable OS to date yet Mr. Gates seems determined to make our lives as miserable as possible all the while he enjoys the profits. This SP3 (OEM) is another example. It was purchased to save time and the effort of slipstreaming an SP2 (OEM) to repair a non-boot on a current install of mine. All went fine until the installation tried to boot for the first time. It wanted to "authenticate" (some new insurance the Mr. Gates gets paid) but produced a blank screen and would go no further. In short, mission failed. The alternative was a fresh install where I chose to do a fresh install with my original XP SP2 disk thus avoiding further time delay and frustration. Does it work? Dunno... probably no better than any previous release and probably slightly better than Vista which (in this user's opinion) is a disaster. ADVICE: Avoid this product if you can, rather get MAC or Linux. I would, if not for the investment in third-party software that is MS only... state of the art.
